Gordon Froud
Gordon is a South African artist with 15 years experience of exhibiting and curetting shows both locally and internationally. He is also a teacher of Art with 5 years experience at Pelmama Academy (Manu College) in Soweto, 5 years as sculpture lecturer at Pretoria University, 2 years experience in secondary schools in London and a total of twelve years educational experience. He has shown in more than two hundred shows locally and internationally and received a number of awards. He is currently based in London, but is involved with art projects and shows in South Africa and commutes back and forth between the two bases. In August and September 2000 I was a resident of the Cite International des Arts in Paris. I produced and exhibition that was well received by the French as well as the international community of artists resident at the Cite. This entire show was made up of disposable plastic crockery and cutlery as used in picnics. My art usually takes the form of manipulation of found objects into interesting and unusual sculptures. In this case the plastic goods were glued together to form columns, spheres, wall pieces, clouds and other intriguing structures. The exhibition / installation was very well documented through photography and only exists in this form as all the works were recycled at the end of the show as they could not, for spatial and financial reasons, be transported back to either London or South Africa Email: gordon@gordartgallery.com or www.art.co.za
